Varmahlíð Swimming Pool is the municipal outdoor pool in Varmahlíð, a small service village in Skagafjörður where the Ring Road (Route 1) meets Route 75 to Sauðárkrókur. The village name means "warm slope", after the geothermal ground it is built on. It is run by the municipality of Skagafjörður and sits beside the village school.
The pool is split into two outdoor sections: a 25 by 12.5 metre main pool for lap swimming and a 12.5 by 8 metre children's pool kept warmer than the main pool, with a small slide. A larger waterslide, 7 metres high and 47 metres long, opened in November 2018 and is the main draw for families. There is also a hot tub beside the pools.
Because Varmahlíð lies directly on the Ring Road about 95 km west of Akureyri, the pool works well as a break on a long driving day. Glaumbær turf farm is about 7 km away, Sauðárkrókur about 23 km, and there is a campsite a few minutes' walk from the pool.
The national pool directory lists winter hours (24 August to 30 May) of 08:00–21:00 on weekdays and 10:00–16:00 at weekends, and summer hours (1 June to 23 August) of 12:00–21:00 on weekdays and 10:00–18:00 at weekends. Hours can change on public holidays and during school events, and the pool posts updates on its Facebook page, so check before a special trip.
The published 2026 prices are 1,400 ISK for adults, 426 ISK for children aged 7–18 and for seniors and disabled visitors, and free entry for children up to 6. A ten-visit adult card costs 8,750 ISK, and towels and swimsuits can be rented for 852 ISK each. As at all Icelandic pools, you must shower without a swimsuit before entering the water.
