Skeiðalaug
About Skeiðalaug
Skeiðalaug is the municipal pool of Skeiða- og Gnúpverjahreppur, at Brautarholt on Route 30 in the farming district of Skeið in South Iceland. It lies between Selfoss and Flúðir, about 13 km from both Flúðir and Árnes, and was opened on 15 November 1975 in a building designed by the architect Jes Einar Þorsteinsson.
The pool is 16.68 metres long and 8 metres wide. It originally had just one hot tub and a steam bath, but the building was renovated in 2023–2024: the steam bath was replaced by a dry sauna, an infrared sauna was added, and there are now an indoor cold tub and two large new hot tubs, one with massage jets. There are rest benches and a gym, and the municipality now promotes it as a wellness pool for relaxing.
For travellers, Skeiðalaug is a quiet alternative to the busier baths on the Golden Circle and the upper Árnessýsla area. It is a practical evening stop if you are staying around Flúðir, Árnes or Þjórsárdalur, and there is a campsite at Brautarholt.
The pool is open every day: 16:00–22:00 Monday to Friday and 10:00–22:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Weekday opening starts late in the afternoon, so plan a morning swim elsewhere.
The 2026 prices are 3,000 ISK for adults aged 18–67, 500 ISK for young people aged 11–18 and 1,500 ISK for seniors and disabled visitors; children aged 10 and under swim free. A ten-visit adult card costs 9,900 ISK. A shower without swimming costs 500 ISK, and towels and swimsuits can be rented for 1,000 ISK each.
