Stöðvarfjörður campground is a small summer campsite at the east end of Stöðvarfjörður, a fishing village on the fjord of the same name in the Eastfjords. It sits beside a patch of woodland on the coastal Route 96, so if you take the slow fjord road instead of the inland Ring Road, it is one of the quietest places to stop for the night.
Facilities are basic. You get toilets, cold water, electricity, picnic tables, a barbecue area and a playground, but there is no hot water on site, so plan on showering at the village pool about 500 meters away. Open fires are not allowed, and dogs are welcome on a leash.
Camping in Stöðvarfjörður is a summer-only option, from June 1 to about the start of September. The site is run as CampEast, and there are no advance bookings or marked pitches: you arrive, pick a spot and pay on site or through the Parka app. Rates for 2026 are 2,500 ISK per adult, 2,000 ISK for seniors and 1,500 ISK for electricity, plus 400 ISK accommodation tax, with children free.
The best reason to stay is Petra's Stone Collection, a short walk away, where one local woman's lifetime of gathered rocks and minerals fills a house and garden. Breiðdalsvík is about 20 minutes south, and Egilsstaðir is a little over an hour north.
