CampEast Breiðdalsvík is a small campsite in the middle of Breiðdalsvík, a fishing village on the Ring Road in the Eastfjords of Iceland. It sits behind the hotel and next to the playground, so the pool, the grocery store and a beer at the local craft brewery are all a few minutes away on foot.

Breiðdalsvík lies on Route 1 between Djúpivogur, about an hour to the south, and Stöðvarfjörður, a short drive north. That makes the Breiðdalsvík campsite a handy overnight on the long day between Höfn and Egilsstaðir, especially if you want to stop before the fjord roads get dark.

Facilities are basic: toilets, hot and cold running water, electricity and a water refill point, and leashed dogs are welcome. CampEast does not list showers, a campers' kitchen, laundry or Wi-Fi here, so plan to shower at the village swimming pool.

There are no bookings, so you turn up, pick a spot and pay. The listed rate is 2,000 ISK per adult per night plus accommodation tax, 1,750 ISK for seniors and disabled guests, and children under 16 stay free. Electricity costs 1,000 ISK per day, and the Camping Card is not accepted.

Camping in Breiðdalsvík is a summer affair, with the season running from June 1 to about September 1. Outside those dates, contact the operator before you count on a pitch, and pack warm layers and a rain shell even in July, because East Iceland weather swings fast.
