About Þingeyri Swimming Pool

Þingeyri Swimming Pool is the public pool in Þingeyri, a small village on the south shore of Dýrafjörður in the Westfjords. It is run by the municipality of Ísafjarðarbær and shares a building with the village sports hall, a steam bath and a gym. Built in 1995, it is the newest of the municipality's pools.

The main pool is indoors and 16.67 metres long, which makes it usable in any weather. There is an indoor hot tub, and an outdoor hot tub was added in spring 2020, giving a view of the fjord and the surrounding mountains. It is a practical stop for travellers on the Westfjords loop, especially campers staying at the Þingeyraroddi campsite on the edge of the village.

Since the Dýrafjörður tunnel opened in 2020, Þingeyri has been on the main route between Ísafjörður, about 48 km north-east, and the southern Westfjords. Dynjandi waterfall is roughly 45 minutes' drive south through the tunnel, so a swim here fits well before or after a visit there.

Summer hours, from early June, are 08:00–21:00 on weekdays and 10:00–18:00 at weekends and public holidays. Winter hours, from late August or 1 September, are much shorter: 08:00–10:00 and 17:00–21:00 Monday to Thursday, 08:00–10:00 on Fridays and 10:00–16:00 at weekends. The 2026 single adult ticket costs 1,420 ISK, a ten-visit card 8,530 ISK and an annual card 25,030 ISK. Under-18s swim free, and seniors and disabled visitors get a 50% discount. Children aged 10 and under must be accompanied by someone aged 15 or older. Towels and swimsuits can be rented for 1,100 ISK each.
