About Varmárlaug
Varmárlaug is the smaller and older of Mosfellsbær's two public pools, part of the Varmá sports centre in the eastern half of the town. It takes its name from the Varmá, the "warm river" that runs past the grounds, and it has a more local, neighbourhood feel than the larger Lágafellslaug about 2 km away.
Facilities are simple but complete: a main swimming pool, a children's pool with play equipment, two hot tubs (one with massage jets), a sauna, a steam bath and an infrared cabin. It suits a quiet soak or lane swim rather than a day of slides; families wanting waterslides usually head to Lágafellslaug instead.
Hours depend on the season. In summer 2026, from 10 June to 25 August, it opens Monday to Friday 06:30–21:30, Saturday 08:00–17:00 and Sunday 08:00–16:00. In winter the pool is used by schools during the day, so on weekdays the public can swim only 06:30–08:00 and 15:00–21:30, while weekend hours stay the same. Holiday and school-related changes are announced by the municipality, so check before a special trip.
Prices follow the Mosfellsbær tariff: a single adult ticket costs 1,300 ISK, and children under 18, seniors aged 67 and over and disabled visitors swim free.
The pool is about 20 minutes' drive from central Reykjavík and a short drive from the Mount Esja trailhead, which makes it a practical place to warm up after a hike. The old Álafoss wool mill area is also close by. Remember to shower without a swimsuit before entering the water.
