About this trip
Hornstrandir Nature Reserve is in the Westfjords. Its amazing views and wide open green spaces will capture your interest! Come along on a fun and relaxing 7-day hike through Iceland's peaceful West Fjords.
Get ready to walk the stunning Hornstrandir trail, which was established in 1975 and is one of the most remote places in Iceland. Along the trail, you'll see incredible views, hidden waterfalls, tasty Nordic food, and cute puffin colonies. Located in the northwest of Iceland, Hornstrandir is one of the most remote places in the country.
There are no hotels or roads in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, but while hiking, you might find a few small cabins. Originally, locals here fished and hunted birds before it was turned into a nature reserve.
The reserve covers about 580 square kilometers and is known for its cliffs and flowering areas. In winter, its mountains are beautifully covered in snow. Hornstrandir is a great place to visit if you love plants and flowers. It has nearly 260 types of flowering plants and ferns.
Some are found all over the Westfjords, but others are only here. The Arctic Fox, the only mammal native to Iceland, is also found here in large numbers.
