Akureyri Backpackers is a central eatery in Akureyri, the largest town in North Iceland and the base most travellers use for exploring the region. It sits in the heart of town, an easy walk from the harbour, the main street and the local guesthouses — an unfussy place to eat rather than a destination in its own right.

The long hours are what make it useful on a trip: after a full day out at Goðafoss, Mývatn or Dettifoss, you can return to town and still find it serving well into the evening, when many kitchens have already closed. Weekend nights run later again — a dependable fallback for travellers keeping loose, weather-led hours in the north.
