Akureyri: Forest Lagoon & Whale Watching

  • Departures February – October
  • Operated by Whale Watching Akureyri

Overview

Five hours in Akureyri split between a whale-watching sailing on Eyjafjörður and a soak at the Forest Lagoon.

Departures at 09:00, 13:00 and 17:00 all begin with the whale watch, a guided sailing of around three hours on a purpose-built boat with a heated saloon, warm overalls, an onboard café and WiFi. The Forest Lagoon follows four hours after departure: two geothermal pools at 37°C and 40°C, an 80°C dry sauna facing the fjord, and an 11°C cold plunge.

There is no hotel pick-up; guests meet on location in Akureyri and reach the lagoon on its shuttle from Hof, which runs hourly from 15 May to 31 August and on Fridays and Saturdays for the rest of the year. Food, drink and towels are not included, though towels are available to hire at the lagoon for ISK 1,200. If no whales are seen, the sailing can be repeated free of charge.
