ATV & Helicopter

Overview

Five hours in Reykjavík split between a one-hour ATV ride to the Hafrafell summit and a one-hour helicopter flight with a mountaintop landing.

When arranged with your booking, pickup from a hotel or the nearest bus stop takes you to the base camp on the edge of the city; otherwise, meet at the base, where guides issue overalls, helmets, balaclavas and gloves for the ride up rocky trails past Lake Hafravatn. Gear is handed back afterwards and a transfer runs to Reykjavík Domestic Airport for the flight with Norðurflug, which lands on a mountain summit for about 20 minutes of photography.

Drivers must be 18 and hold a full driving licence; passengers ride from age 8. Each ATV carries two, so an odd-numbered group must book one single-rider place, and the far views of the Reykjanes volcanoes and Snæfellsjökull only appear in clear weather.

The shape of your day

  1. Start

    Meet at the ATV base

    Meet Safari Quads at Lambhagavegur 19, or follow the pickup arrangement confirmed with your booking.

  2. ATV briefing and ride

    Collect the riding equipment, receive a safety briefing and ride the trails by Hafravatn and Reykjavík Peak.

  3. Continue to Reykjavík Domestic Airport

    Continue to the airport for the helicopter portion under the transfer arrangements confirmed for your booking.

  4. Helicopter flight and summit landing

    Take a scenic flight with a mountain landing selected by the pilot for current conditions. Arrange your onward journey after the flight; a hotel return is not confirmed.
