    Overview

A private south coast day for one family, with an easy guided hike on Sólheimajökull. The start time is flexible and the guide sets the pace around your children.

This is the south coast run as a private family day. The vehicle carries your group only, the guide is yours for the day, and the walk on Sólheimajökull is graded easy. There is no fixed departure time either: you book a date, and the start time is flexible.

The driving is broken up by six stops. Two waterfalls at the western end of the route, Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi; Skógafoss further east; the glacier tongue at Sólheimajökull; the Dyrhólaey peninsula; and the black sand beach at Reynisfjara near Vík. Crampons, a helmet, a harness and an ice axe are provided for the ice, and snacks and Icelandic water are included.

Because the booking is private, the guide can shorten the ice walk or spend longer at a stop without it affecting anyone else. Guiding is in English or Polish. One booking covers up to five people. Cancelling more than 24 hours before the start is free of charge.

Plan for about eleven hours from pick-up to drop-off. That figure is the whole day including the driving, not time spent on the ice, and pick-up and drop-off are both included in the price and set when you book. Bring warm layers and a waterproof jacket; hiking shoes and waterproof trousers are not supplied. Lunch is not included. A few limits worth knowing before you book for a family: the tour is not stroller accessible, infant seats are not available and infants cannot travel on a lap, and the operator does not recommend it for pregnant travellers or people with back or heart conditions.
