About Camping Langafit
Camping Langafit is a small campsite and guesthouse in Laugarbakki, a hamlet in Miðfjörður in North-west Iceland, just off the Ring Road. It is roughly 8 km south of Hvammstangi and a convenient overnight stop on the long drive between Borgarnes and Akureyri, with the Vatnsnes peninsula close by.
The campsite is simple and quiet, with space for tents and campervans, electricity, showers and a hot tub. The guesthouse side of the business has a kitchen, a washing machine and a dryer, and also offers sleeping-bag accommodation for those who want a roof for the night. Next door is a craft shop and coffee house serving coffee and waffles, and a nearby greenhouse sells strawberries and vegetables in season. There is also a small playground for children.
Laugarbakki is well placed for exploring the Húnaþing vestra area. Hvammstangi has the Icelandic Seal Centre, a swimming pool, a shop and restaurants. The road around Vatnsnes passes seal-watching spots at Illugastaðir and Hvítserkur, the basalt sea stack on the east side of the peninsula, and the Kolugljúfur canyon in Víðidalur is a short drive east along the Ring Road. The area is also known for its horse farms and salmon rivers.
The campsite opens in summer, roughly from mid-May to the end of September, with exact dates depending on the weather; the guesthouse is open all year. Current camping prices are not published online, so contact Langafit before arriving or pay on site. Laugarbakki is on paved roads and reachable in an ordinary car, but in spring and autumn nights can be cold and windy, so bring warm gear.
