About Geosea Sjóböð

GeoSea is a geothermal sea bath on Húsavíkurhöfði headland at the northern edge of Húsavík, next to the town's lighthouse. It opened in 2018. The infinity-edge pools hold naturally heated, mineral-rich seawater from two boreholes and sit on a cliff above Skjálfandi Bay, one of Iceland's best-known whale-watching areas.

The water is kept at 38–39°C. No cleaning chemicals are used; seawater flows through the pools continuously, which keeps them clean. There is a swim-up bar, a steam room and a café, and the pools face west across the bay. Whales are sometimes seen from the pools, but sightings are not guaranteed.

The baths are at Vitaslóð 1, about 2 km or a five-minute drive from central Húsavík. Akureyri is about 78 km away, around 75 minutes by car, and Lake Mývatn, Ásbyrgi and Goðafoss are all within an hour's drive, so GeoSea fits into a day on the Diamond Circle.

Adult entry is 6,490 ISK. Children aged 6–16 pay 3,290 ISK, children under 6 enter free with an adult, and seniors, disabled visitors and students pay 4,390 ISK with ID. Towels can be rented for 1,390 ISK, swimsuits for 1,190 ISK and robes for 2,690 ISK. The operator states that booking is required, online or by phone.

GeoSea is open all year. Opening times vary by season, and the operator's website lists both 10:00–22:00 and 12:00–22:00, so check before you go. Summer evenings stay light late into the night, and winter evenings a chance of northern lights.
