About Húsavík Swimming Pool

Húsavík Swimming Pool is the town's public pool, run by Norðurþing at Laugarbrekka 2, up the hill from the whale-watching harbour. It is a practical, low-cost alternative to the GeoSea sea baths on the headland, and it is where local families and schoolchildren swim.

The main outdoor pool is 16.67 metres long and kept at about 29.5°C, with a shallow children's section at around 37°C. There are hot tubs, one of them a massage tub at about 38°C and a hotter tub at around 41°C. One large waterslide runs all year and two smaller slides open in summer. Primary-school lessons use the pool on weekday mornings in term time, so part of the water may be roped off then.

The pool is open all year. Weekday hours are Monday to Thursday 07:15–20:15 and Friday 07:15–17:45, and weekends open at 10:00 and close in the late afternoon, a little later in summer than in winter. Entry stops 30 minutes before closing. Weekday evenings are usually quieter than weekend afternoons.

A single adult ticket is about 1,300 ISK, children aged 6–17 pay 520 ISK and seniors pay 780 ISK, and ten-visit cards are available. Húsavík has adjusted its tariff for 2026, so expect small differences at the desk.

A swim here fits well after a whale-watching trip or a drive round the Diamond Circle, which links Húsavík with Ásbyrgi, Dettifoss and Lake Mývatn. The town campsite is a few minutes' walk away. As at all Icelandic pools, shower without a swimsuit before you swim.
