About Íþróttamiðstöðin í Búðardal
Íþróttamiðstöðin í Búðardal is the new sports centre and outdoor pool in Búðardalur, the main village of the Dalir district in West Iceland. Run by the municipality of Dalabyggð, it opened on 28 February 2026 at Miðbraut 8b in the centre of the village, close to the shop, restaurants, campsite and garage.
The centre has a 25-metre outdoor pool, hot tubs, a wading pool, a sauna and a cold tub, with a view across Hvammsfjörður. The water comes from a borehole in Reykjadalur in Dalir; the pool is kept at 28–30°C, the hot tubs at 38–40°C and the wading pool at about 35°C. Inside there is a well-equipped gym that visitors can pay to use, and a multi-purpose sports hall.
Búðardalur sits on Route 60, the main road between the Ring Road and the Westfjords, so the pool is a convenient break on that drive. It is also within reach of Stykkishólmur and the Snæfellsnes peninsula, and the Búðardalur campsite is a short walk away.
Summer hours (1 June to 31 August) are 07:00–21:00 on weekdays and 10:00–18:00 at weekends and public holidays. In winter the pool opens 07:00–21:00 on weekdays and 10:00–16:00 at weekends and public holidays. Entry is allowed until 30 minutes before closing, and the pool is closed on major public holidays.
The 2026 prices are 1,400 ISK for adults, 400 ISK for young people aged 10–18 and 700 ISK for people aged 67 and over and disabled visitors. A ten-visit adult card costs 9,800 ISK. A shower without swimming costs 800 ISK, towel rental 850 ISK and swimsuit rental 1,250 ISK.
