Mývatn Nature Baths are a popular geothermal spa located in northern Iceland. Known as the "Blue Lagoon of the North," this place offers visitors a chance to soak in warm, mineral-rich waters while enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding volcanic landscape. The water temperature ranges between 36-40°C (96-104°F), making it perfect for relaxation. The baths are filled with natural geothermal water from nearby hot springs and have a rich blend of minerals like sulfur and silica. These minerals are believed to benefit the skin and can create a soothing experience. Unlike some other hot springs, Mývatn Nature Baths tend to be less crowded, offering a more tranquil environment. The facilities include clean changing rooms, showers, and a café where you can enjoy snacks or drinks. The outdoor pools are designed to blend naturally with the environment, giving visitors an authentic Icelandic experience. The steam rising from the waters adds to the magical atmosphere, especially during colder months when snow covers the ground. Visiting Mývatn Nature Baths provides not only a relaxing experience but also a unique opportunity to connect with Iceland's natural beauty and geothermal wonders.

What other travelers are saying about

Mývatn Nature Baths

I would probably have rated this higher if I hadn't experienced how great the spa named Vök was. Because the contrast between the changing rooms between the two was impossible to ignore. Mud on the floor, no dry spaces, no private changing booths, and people everywhere. The smell of sulfur was tolerable and worth it for the color and experiance of the nature bath, and once in the water the place was spacious enough for relaxation. The surroundings are also very pretty. We were not bothered by the renovations at all and I do hope the new building will offer better changing rooms.

Very nice experience, friendly and helpful staff. Got there when they opened, and it filled up during the first hour, but would not say it was overcrowded at all. One can buy drinks at the pool, something we didn’t do. Three different pools with different temperatures. They are renovation and expanding at the moment, but we did not notice anything of it and it did not affect the experience. The restaurant was very busy when we left.

Enjoyed our visit here. Not overly crowded. Quick walk from the parking area to get inside. Short walk from the changing rooms to get into the baths. We spent almost all of our time in the back right corner of the bath on the right. It was a nice warm area.
