Mývatn Nature Baths are a popular geothermal spa located in northern Iceland. Known as the "Blue Lagoon of the North," this place offers visitors a chance to soak in warm, mineral-rich waters while enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding volcanic landscape. The water temperature ranges between 36-40°C (96-104°F), making it perfect for relaxation. The baths are filled with natural geothermal water from nearby hot springs and have a rich blend of minerals like sulfur and silica. These minerals are believed to benefit the skin and can create a soothing experience. Unlike some other hot springs, Mývatn Nature Baths tend to be less crowded, offering a more tranquil environment. The facilities include clean changing rooms, showers, and a café where you can enjoy snacks or drinks. The outdoor pools are designed to blend naturally with the environment, giving visitors an authentic Icelandic experience. The steam rising from the waters adds to the magical atmosphere, especially during colder months when snow covers the ground. Visiting Mývatn Nature Baths provides not only a relaxing experience but also a unique opportunity to connect with Iceland's natural beauty and geothermal wonders.

The Blue lagoon in iceland was closed due to a volcanic eruption near by. And then we found Mývatn Nature Baths. Much cheaper and in a beautiful location. You get the same experience and not as much crowd. It is a fantastic experience of geothermal spa. There are two big pools and the views from the pools are pretty cool. We did not need to pre-book. We loved our experience here.
Enjoyed our trip to the Myvatn Nature Bath which is a mid-level nature bath. There are two large pools and two small pools and steam rooms. This is definitely good for families with kids. It's nice that they provide drinking water everywhere. You can also order drinks from the swim up bar.
I would probably have rated this higher if I hadn't experienced how great the spa named Vök was. Because the contrast between the changing rooms between the two was impossible to ignore. Mud on the floor, no dry spaces, no private changing booths, and people everywhere. The smell of sulfur was tolerable and worth it for the color and experiance of the nature bath, and once in the water the place was spacious enough for relaxation. The surroundings are also very pretty. We were not bothered by the renovations at all and I do hope the new building will offer better changing rooms.

Unlike many other geothermal baths, Mývatn Nature Baths feature alkaline water sourced directly from underground hot springs, providing a soothing experience that is less harsh on the skin.
Visiting during the late afternoon or evening can provide a spectacular view of the sunset over the volcanic terrain and, if you're lucky, a glimpse of the Northern Lights during winter months.
The mineral-rich waters are known for their therapeutic properties, potentially benefiting conditions like arthritis and eczema due to their high silica and sulfur content.
Visitors should bring swimwear and towels. Lockers are available on-site for personal belongings, and it's advisable to also bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
