About Vestmannaeyjar Swimming Pool

Vestmannaeyjar Swimming Pool is the public pool of Heimaey, the only inhabited island in the Westman Islands off Iceland's south coast. It sits in the town's sports centre at Kirkjuvegur 50 and is one of the best-equipped family pools in South Iceland.

The pool first opened in 1976 and was rebuilt in its current form around 2010, when the outdoor area was added. Indoors there is a 25 by 11 metre freshwater pool heated to about 29.5°C, with a 1-metre diving board and toys in the shallow end. Outside are two hot tubs, a large warm therapy pool, a children's pool with a climbing wall, basketball hoops and its own slide, a toddler area, and two larger waterslides, one of which ends on a trampoline that bounces you into the water.

Opening hours are Monday to Friday 06:30–21:00 and Saturday and Sunday 09:00–18:00. Hours can change on public holidays and during events such as the Þjóðhátíð festival in early August, so check before your visit. The 2026 admission prices were not published online at the time of writing; contact the pool or ask at the desk.

The pool is a good way to fill a rainy afternoon on Heimaey or to warm up after hiking Eldfell or visiting the Eldheimar volcano museum. It is within walking distance of the harbour where the Herjólfur ferry from Landeyjahöfn arrives, and close to the island campsite.

As at every Icelandic pool, shower without a swimsuit before you swim.
