SHIRO is the Japanese restaurant at the centre of Pósthússtræti 17, an Icelandic heritage house from 1907 restored with its original facade intact. It began takeaway-first in the summer of 2026 — the Embassy of Japan in Iceland welcomed the opening, with Ambassador Takewaka stopping by for karaage and gyoza — and since 2 October 2026 the house has been open in full: three Japanese venues under one roof, with SHIRO across two floors, the Singapore-tinged takeaway counter NO.17 at street level, and the cocktail bar ĒN in the basement.

SHIRO's own floors are built around omotenashi, the Japanese philosophy of wholehearted hospitality. On the middle floor, yakiniku grills are set into the tables alongside modern washoku cooking, sushi and tempura; the top floor is given over to teppanyaki prepared in front of guests, with room for private gatherings. Lunch and dinner run seven days a week — book ahead if you have your eye on the teppanyaki floor.
