Overview
A 2.5-hour buggy ride through the lava fields and the Hengill volcanic area, from a base 15 minutes outside Reykjavík.
Departures run daily from 15 April to 15 December, with optional hotel pickup at 13:00, half an hour before the start; the ride itself is 2.5 hours, or about 3.5 hours with transfers. An English-speaking guide leads the route past Lake Hafravatn and off-road across the Hengill area, with views of Bláfjöll and Vífilsfell and steam from the geothermal power plant on clear days.
Overalls, a helmet, gloves, a balaclava and rain gear are provided. Drivers must be 18 and hold a valid driving licence, passengers ride from age 6, and prices are per person rather than per buggy, so an odd-numbered group needs one single-rider place.
