Glacier Edge Helicopter Tour from Skaftafell with Landing

  • Operated by Atlantsflug

Overview

An hour in a helicopter along the outlet glaciers of Vatnajökull, leaving from Skaftafell and landing once at a site close to the ice.

Roughly 40 of the 60 minutes are spent flying. The route follows Svínafellsjökull and Skaftafellsjökull and the valleys around them, with icefalls, crevasses and glacier ridges below and the peaks of Öræfajökull beyond, before the pilot puts down at a landing site chosen that day for its views and conditions. Free parking at Skaftafell Terminal and a coffee or tea after landing are part of the ticket.

The landing is at a site near the glacier rather than on the ice, and the ticket covers the flight and one landing near the glacier, and a glacier walk is not part of it. Departures run with a minimum of four passengers, with a reschedule or full refund if that is not reached, and route, landing place and departure time all follow the weather. Guests travel to Skaftafell independently; closed, sturdy shoes and warm layers are advised.
