About Laugar Camping
Laugar Camping is the village campsite of Laugar in Reykjadalur, North Iceland, the service centre of the Þingeyjarsveit district. The village lies just off Route 1 between Akureyri and Mývatn, about 60 km east of Akureyri, 40 km south of Húsavík and roughly 20 minutes' drive from Lake Mývatn, which makes it a quieter base for the Mývatn area than the lakeside campsites.
The campsite is in the centre of the village, next to the sports area and swimming pool, and is run together with Dalakofinn, the local shop and restaurant. The field house has toilets, showers, a washing machine and a tumble dryer, with cooking facilities and tables on the upper floor. There is space for tents, caravans and campervans. Prices are not published consistently online, so check current rates with the campsite or Dalakofinn before arriving.
The Laugar swimming pool, a short walk away, has a 25-metre pool at around 30°C, two hot tubs of about 37°C and 40°C, a children's pool and a gym. It is open daily from 10:00 to 21:00 in June to August, with shorter hours the rest of the year. The village also has a bank, a secondary school and a summer hotel, and horse riding and a golf course are available nearby.
The campsite works mainly in summer, so confirm opening dates if you plan to arrive outside June to August. From Laugar, Goðafoss is about 15 minutes' drive west, Mývatn with its craters, lava formations and nature baths is about 20 minutes east, and Húsavík's whale-watching harbour is under an hour north. Aldeyjarfoss, at the southern end of Bárðardalur, is a longer detour on a gravel road.
