Stapalaug
About Stapalaug
Stapalaug is the newest of Reykjanesbær's public pools, built into the Stapaskóli school and sports centre at Dalsbraut 11 in the Innri-Njarðvík district. It is a quiet neighbourhood pool, used mostly by local families, and a calmer alternative to the town's main pool complex at Vatnaveröld.
The facilities are modern and compact: a 25-metre pool, two children's wading pools (one indoors and one outdoors), two outdoor hot tubs and a cold tub, plus a steam bath and an infrared sauna. The outdoor hot-tub area faces south, so it catches whatever sun there is on bright afternoons.
Because the pool shares its building with a school, public opening starts in the afternoon on weekdays. From 1 June to 25 August it opens Monday to Friday 13:00–21:30, and from 26 August to 31 May weekdays run 15:00–21:30. Weekend hours are 09:00–18:00 all year. It closes on several public holidays, including Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, 1 May, Whit Sunday and 17 June, and shuts at 11:30 on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve; on other public holidays it opens 09:00–17:00.
A single adult ticket costs 1,300 ISK in 2026. Children aged 10–18, seniors aged 67 and over and disabled visitors pay 240 ISK, and children under 10 swim free with an accompanying swimmer aged 15 or older. Ten-visit cards and annual passes are also sold, and passes are valid at both Stapalaug and the Sundmiðstöð pool.
Stapalaug is about 15 minutes' drive from Keflavík Airport, which makes it a practical place for a shower and soak before an evening flight or after an early arrival, at a fraction of the cost of the Blue Lagoon. As in every Icelandic pool, you must shower without a swimsuit before entering.
