Puffins at Borgarfjörður Eystri: Shore Excursion from Seyðisfjörður

  • Operated by Your Friend in Reykjavik

Overview

Puffins at Hafnarhólmi and the village of Bakkagerði on a five-hour shore excursion from Seyðisfjörður, with no hiking involved.

The route crosses a mountain pass from the fjord to Borgarfjörður Eystri, where a built viewing platform at Hafnarhólmi stands beside the nesting colony; kittiwakes and fulmars use the same cliffs. The group is small, the pace allows stops for photographs, and the guide covers the folklore of Álfaborg, the rock above the village said to be home to the elf queen.

Puffins are at Hafnarhólmi during the nesting season, roughly May to August, and are not there outside it. The café stop and the visit to the Lindarbakki turf house happen only if time allows. Bring layered, windproof clothing and shoes you can walk in.
