Overview
A private day around the Snæfellsnes Peninsula with one guide and one vehicle, booked for up to five people, with nobody else on board. It is put together for travelling with children rather than for covering the most ground: the day is graded very easy, the stops are the ones you can reach from where the car parks, and the guide is used to taking questions from the children as well as the adults.
The stops run in this order. Kirkjufell, the mountain on the north coast of the peninsula. Saxhóll, a crater near Hellissandur towards the western end. Djúpalónssandur, a black beach on the outer tip. Then the day works back east along the south coast: Arnarstapi, a fishing village; Búðakirkja, the small black church at Búðir; and Ytri-Tunga, the seal beach.
Because the vehicle is yours for the day, the length of each stop can move to suit the children — longer where they are interested, shorter where they are not. Guiding is in English or Polish. Bottled water and snacks are in the car. Lunch is not included, so bring what the children will want to eat.
Pick-up and drop-off are included in the price, and the pick-up point is set on the booking, so there is no meeting point to find. Set the whole day aside: 10 hours and 30 minutes in total, driving between stops included. Infant seats can be fitted on request, but infants cannot travel on a lap, and the vehicle is not set up for prams or wheelchairs. Booking closes at 17:00 the day before, and cancelling more than 24 hours ahead costs nothing.
