Ice Cave Discovery: Blue Ice Cave and Glacier Hike on Breiðamerkurjökull

  • Operated by Local Guide of Vatnajökull

Overview

A blue ice cave on Breiðamerkurjökull followed by a guided hike higher onto the glacier, six hours in total, in groups of up to eight per guide.

Custom 4x4 vehicles carry the group from the operator's base out to the ice. After the cave, the guide leads a longer walk up Breiðamerkurjökull, with some steeper sections and a pause for a snack. A guide and the glacier safety equipment are included; hiking boots with ankle support can be hired on location for ISK 1,500.

Ice caves change every year: the cave visited is scouted at the start of each season, and caves from previous winters no longer exist or cannot be reached. Other groups visit the same cave, so an empty cave is not promised. There is no pick-up, guests meet on location, and the minimum booking age is 17.
