The natural ice cave is seasonal and is visited only when the guide confirms safe access; the hike continues if cave access is unavailable. The minimum age is 8.

  1. Start

    Skaftafell meeting point

    Check in at the Troll Expeditions Skaftafell terminal; this is a self-drive activity without Reykjavík pickup.

  2. Equipment and transfer

    Collect the supplied glacier gear, complete the safety briefing and travel toward the glacier.

  3. Glacier hike

    Hike on the glacier with a certified guide and learn how to use the supplied equipment safely.

  4. Natural blue ice cave

    Explore a naturally formed blue ice cave when seasonal conditions and the guide’s safety assessment allow.

  5. End

    Return to Skaftafell

    Visit Return to Skaftafell as part of the guided route. Timing and access can change with local conditions.
