Sundlaugin að Hlöðum

About Sundlaugin að Hlöðum

Sundlaugin að Hlöðum is a small summer-only swimming pool on the northern shore of Hvalfjörður, the long fjord north of Reykjavík, in the Hvalfjarðarsveit district of West Iceland. It is about 10 minutes' drive from Route 1, which makes it an easy detour for anyone taking the old fjord road instead of the Hvalfjörður tunnel, or visiting Glymur and the rest of the fjord.

The main pool is 16.67 metres long and kept at 31 to 32°C, with a children's wading pool at 30 to 31°C. There are three hot tubs at 38 to 40°C, a sauna at 75 to 90°C and a cold plunge pool at 6 to 9°C. Changing rooms are split by gender, both indoors and outdoors, and the outdoor facilities are wheelchair accessible. Unusually for an Icelandic pool, ice cream and drinks are allowed in the hot tubs and wading pool.

The pool only opens in summer. In 2026 the season ran from 23 May to 15 August, with extra weekend opening on 22–23 and 29–30 August; opening was Monday to Friday 12:00–20:00 and Saturday and Sunday 10:00–20:00. It is closed for the rest of the year, and the 2027 dates have not yet been announced, so check before planning a visit.

Single entry costs 1,200 ISK for adults, 500 ISK for children aged 6 to 16 and 1,020 ISK for seniors and disabled visitors, and children under 6 swim free. Ten-visit cards are also sold. The pool can be reached on 433 8980. As at every Icelandic pool, shower without a swimsuit before entering the water.
